בשנת 1922 פרשו הצייר מגרדיש קרקשיאן והיוצר נישאן בליאן מסדנת אריחי כיפת הסלע והקימו את סדנת 'קדרות ארץ ישראל' בדרך שכם. לאחר מותו של מגרדיש קרקשיאן ב־1963 יצאו בניו סטפן וברג' לדרך חדשה והקימו את Jerusalem Pottery ברחוב הויה דולורוזה. סטפן קרקשיאן המשיך לפתח את הדגמים המסורתיים ליצירה חדשה בקו יד מדויק המבודד את הדימויים ומעצימם רעייתו, מלינה, נטלה אף היא חלק במלאכת הציור. כיום מנהלים את הסדנה הנכד הגופ קרקשיאן ורעייתו צוריג. עבודתם ממשיכה לעסוק בשכלול הדגמים המסורתיים לצד תוספות וחידושים מעולמות אמנותיים מגוונים.
In 1922 the master potter Neshan Balian and the artist Megerditch Karakashian left David Ohannessian’s Dome of the Rock Tile Studio, and opened the Palestine Pottery Studio on Nablus Road in Jerusalem's Old City. After Megerditch Karakashian's death in 1963, his sons Stepan and Berge Karakashian left the studio to establish the Jerusalem Pottery Studio on the Via Dolorosa. Stepan continued developing traditional designs with an emphasis on precise lines which accentuate and empower the painted imagery. His wife Melina also took part in the artwork. Today the workshop is run by Hagop Karkashian, Stepan's son and Megerditch's grandson, and his wife Tzoghig. Their work continues the development of traditional models alongside additions and innovations from a diversity of artistic genres.

of his continuation of the Jerusalem tradition.

بإذن من الفنّان
في هذا العمل طاووس أنيق يرمز إلى الخلود، دمج الفنّان بين نماذج من فسيفساء العصافير وبين نماذج من أعمال أبيه اسطفان وجدّه مكرديش وهي تعبير عن استمراريّة الحرفة التقليدية المقدسيّة.
